What GEO is, in a few clear words

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work that makes an AI system know your company and cite it when somebody asks it for a recommendation. It is not about earning a click on your website. It is about being named in the answer.

Why this is being talked about now

1

People stopped typing keywords: they describe their situation in ordinary words and ask for a recommendation.

2

The answer arrives already written, often without anyone opening a website or comparing options.

3

So the value is no longer only where you rank: it is whether your name is in the answer, or whether a competitor's name is.

The operating question has changed. It used to be "how do I get on page one?". Now it is: "when a customer describes their problem to an AI, does the algorithm name me, or a competitor?"

What AI looks at (and what it does not)

1

Not only your website

AI cross-checks the whole digital ecosystem. Your site is one input, not the source of truth.

2

Consistency

Name, location, activity and specialisations have to match everywhere. A contradiction lowers the algorithm's confidence in you.

3

Outside confirmation

Press and trade press, registers, reviews, professional databases: these are the sources AI actually cites.

4

Explicit expertise

Content that deals with concrete cases and answers real questions. Generic articles get ignored.

A concrete example

A company well known in its market, first in traditional search results, almost invisible in AI answers. A less famous competitor is named instead. That is not a website problem: it is a sources problem.

In our measurements on real questions this is the most common case: traditional visibility does not predict AI citation. That gap is exactly what we measure.

What GEO is not

It is not SEO. They overlap, but SEO works on ranking and GEO works on being cited inside an answer.

It is not llms.txt or a "magic schema": technical shortcuts do not replace a real presence on the sources.

It does not guarantee citations. Nobody can guarantee you a position: anyone promising one is not measuring anything.

It is not a single score. Mention, recommendation, order in the answer and cited sources are different things and are measured separately.

How it is measured

How we work
Why
Real customer questions, not keywords assembled in a meeting room
The measurement has to resemble the conversation the customer actually has
Several platforms, with the instrument disclosed for every result
APIs and the public interface can answer differently: blending them falsifies the data
Mention and recommendation kept separate
Being listed is not the same as being recommended
Sample stated: indicative, not universal
Nobody observes every conversation; claiming otherwise is selling vapour

The practical step is measurement: where your name appears, where your competitors' names appear, and which sources AI cites in your sector. How we work →

Measure your position

We send you the entry measurement: where your brand appears in AI answers and who appears instead. What arrives: 5 questions, 4 platforms, 3 brands. Calibration phase: we measure a limited number of companies, by application.

Frequently asked questions

Is GEO the same thing as SEO?

No. SEO works to make you appear in search results; GEO works to get you cited inside an answer already written by AI. They overlap, but they are measured differently: in GEO what counts is whether you are named, how you are presented and who is named instead of you.

Can an AI citation be bought?

No. AI cites what the trusted web says about you: press, encyclopedias, professional registers, reviews, industry pages. Anyone guaranteeing citations is selling a promise they cannot keep. The real work is making your presence consistent and verifiable across those sources, then measuring it.

How long before a result shows?

Measurable movement takes 3-6 months: press mentions, recognition of the company as an entity, content that answers real questions. The first signals appear in the month-by-month comparison, not in a week.

Where do you start?

With a measurement: the questions your customers actually ask AI, your name and your competitors' names in the answers, and the sources AI cites in your sector. That tells you whether the subject concerns you, and how much.
